More Than Just a Summer Job: Apply with City of Roseville

Roseville Parks and Recreation Commissioner Greg Hoag encourages young people to consider working for a parks and recreation department, not just for the paycheck, but also as the first step into a rewarding career.

I would not be where I am at today if it weren’t for my first job at the City of Roseville,” claims Greg Hoag, a Roseville Parks and Recreation Commissioner and current manager of a neighboring parks and recreation department. Hoag started working for Roseville when he was 15 years old, after a family friend encouraged him to apply. Now, Hoag encourages young people to consider working for a parks and recreation department, not just for the paycheck, but also as the first step into a rewarding career.

He’s served 27 years as a Roseville firefighter, watched over the construction of the Cedarholm Community Center and The MN OVAL. You can hear the pride in his voice when he mentions his time with Parks and Recreation.

“I was one of the first people ever to drive a Zamboni on the newly built Guidant John Rose MN OVAL.” Hoag really has done it all. He hopes that more young people apply to work at the city, and will see their own careers bloom as well.

This is a great place to learn what you want to do in life!

According to Roseville Parks and Recreation Superintendent, Carrie Anderson, the department loves to hire and work with high school and college students who are back for summer break – but these summer positions appeal to more than those looking to build their first official resume.

There’s a growing interest amongst retirees who are looking for something they can do that will keep them active and put their wealth of experience to a good (community) use.
