Roseville City Council appointed three new residents to fill various commission vacancies. The new commissioners will serve three-year terms, beginning April 1.

The three new City Commissioners for the Finance, Parks and Recreation and Public Works Environment and Transportation (PWET) commissions may come from many different experiences, but their desire to serve their community is bringing them together.

sadiq-dahir-headshotRoseville resident Sadiq Dahir brings more than a decade of accounting experience to his new role as Finance commissioner. He says this post will give him a chance to give back to the community that embraced his family when they moved here from Somalia.

As this city welcomed us eight years ago when we first rented an apartment being immigrants; but now have a strong hold owning a home and raising two kids who are born in this city. I want to give back and contribute to the lives of all people of Roseville currently living here or future residents.

edwin-hodder-headshotFormer finance commissioner Edwin Hodder sees his background as a principal planner for the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) being an asset to the commission in his new role on the PWET commission.

I have a strong interest in understanding of the Roseville Public Works Department,” says Hodder.  Federal, state, county, regional, and other services impact the city’s public works function, [and I can] provide recommendations to the city council, city manager, and director of public works that encourage fiscal and environmental sustainability.

lindsay-matts-benson-headshotLindsay Matts-Benson believes community involvement makes the community better—that’s why she applied to be on the Parks and Recreation commission. She wants to continue to make sure Roseville Parks are welcoming for all.

I want to be an advocate by engaging with community members who need more access to our Parks and the recreational programming,” she says. [I look forward to assessing] resources, taking the time to listen and knowing when to act where appropriate.
