On Monday, April 25, City Council supported a council member-initiated item to support residents who wish to participate in “No Mow May.” Local ordinances pertaining to lawn maintenance are temporarily suspended until June 1.
No Mow May is a community initiative, started almost a decade ago in the United Kingdom. The program encourages property owners to limit lawn mowing practices during the month of May to provide early season foraging resources for pollinators that emerge in the spring. Other benefits can include a healthier lawn and decreased water runoff and erosion.
The City of Roseville joins a number of other cities in the metro area, including Edina, Mendota Heights, Vadnais Heights, Columbia Heights, West St. Paul, and New Brighton to support this initiative.
