The Roseville City Council voted 4-1 to temporarily pause licensing at the Feb. 13 meeting after hearing from residents. Short-term rentals refer to residential properties that are offered for lease, often in lieu of a hotel, on websites including Airbnb and Vrbo.

In February 2021, the City Council passed an ordinance, which established the short-term rental license program and set parameters on these rentals after months of study and public input.

City leaders decided to require licenses to ensure that non-owner-occupied short-term rentals would not become a neighborhood nuisance or foster blight.

Since its adoption, the city has issued seven licenses, which remain valid and eligible for renewal while city leaders study the issue.
