Chief’s Message

We had a wonderful Friday’s with Firefighters event on June 23rd, our first of 2023.  I want to thank you everyone for coming out and joining us at the fire station.  A quick reminder we have two more this summer on July 21st and August 18th.

Now that we are in the full swing of summer it is important to note some fire safety reminders in regards to recreational fires.  We tend to get a lot of questions about recreational fires and their requirements.  There is a link below to learn more specifics, but I wanted to at least provide a brief overview on our recreational fire policy and important safety tips when having a fire.

The purpose for recreational fires is for cooking and social gatherings.  A fire should not be any larger than 3 feet in height x 3 feet width x 3 feet length.  Please have an extinguishing option available near the fire, this could be a garden hose, watering can, or a fire extinguisher.  It is important to have an adult constantly attended by an adult, and do not hesitate to call 911 if there is a problem with the fire or further assistance is needed.

Here is the link to our Recreational Fire policy.  Be safe!

Parade

June Community Education

Rosefest

It's the time of year where we get to celebrate the great community of Roseville with Rosefest! This year the Parks & Rec department put on some great events that we were able to partake in. The parade was a great success and so was Run for the Roses! It's always a great start to summer!

Juneteenth

The fire department helped the City celebrate at their 4th annual Juneteenth celebration on June 17th.  Juneteenth became the 11th federal holiday in 2021 and is now also an official state holiday in Minnesota.

Fridays with Firefighters

Our first Fridays with Firefighters of 2023 was a huge success! We're not sure how many people attended, but we do know we went through over 250 freezies! Kids of all ages (and kids at heart) enjoyed a beautiful day checking out the trucks & ambulance, bouncing in the bounce house and even dunking the City Manager in the dunk tank! Our next one will be on Friday July 21st between 10 am and noon. We'd love to see you there!

June Notable Events

Water rescue

Water Rescue

In the early morning hours of June 6th Roseville Firefighters were called to assist with a male in Lake McCarrons in distress. Roseville Firefighters along with St. Paul Fire, Lake Johanna Fire, Roseville Police, Ramsey County Sheriff, and Allina Medical Transportation all responded and conducted a successful rescue of the male who was in the water. The cooperative efforts of all involved agencies provided for a successful outcome for this incident.

Funeral

Line of Duty Death Funeral

Several Roseville Fire Department members attended the Line of Duty Death funeral for St. Paul Fire Captain Chris Parsons. Captain Parsons was a key figure in the Minnesota Fire Service working hard as the past president of the Minnesota Professional Fire Fighters Association to improve the health and safety for all of Minnesota’s firefighters. The void that Captain Parsons passing creates will not be one easily filled and he will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

Shed fire

Shed Fire

On June 22nd Roseville Firefighters were called to assist Lake Johanna Fire with a shed fire near the border of Shoreview and Roseville due to a downed power line. Crews responded and assisted Lake Johanna Fire with extinguishing the fire and assisting with cleanup. The fire was caused by a branch that had fallen from a tree and caused a fire in the dry vegetation that spread to the shed.

June Training

For training in June, our crews focused on Mass Casualty incidents, Fire Engine Pumping and Operating our boat.

Mass Casualty incidents are those that have more patients than the on scene personnel can care for.  These situations, however rare, do happen and our crews use a triage system to make sure we are caring for and prioritizing transport to the most critical first.

The driver of our fire engine on any given day has multiple responsibilities.  One of those responsibilities is operating the pump.  This is what sends water through the fire hoses that the other firefighters are using at a fire incident.  All of our firefighters are trained in this role.  This water can come from the solely the tank on our truck, another truck that has arrived or from the cities fire hydrants.

Some may not know, but the Roseville Fire Department has a boat!!  There are a number of bodies of water in our city as well as our neighboring cities.  If there were to be an incident on the water we will bring our boat and deploy it into the water.  We practiced quickly attaching the trailer, driving and maneuvering the boat in the water and the very important skill of backing a trailer up at a boat ramp.
