Lock Box Program - Commercial & Multi-Family
In cases of fire or medical emergencies, it is vital that fire fighters and paramedics be able to gain access to buildings whether or not a caretaker is present. For this reason, the Minnesota State Fire Code provides authority to require installation of keyboxes. (MSFC 506)
A keybox is an armored tamper-proof box in which entry keys are placed for Fire Department emergency use. The keybox also helps minimize damage to your doors in an emergency.
The Roseville Fire Department requires lock boxes for the following to have a FD Lock Box:
- All commercial buildings
- All multi-family buildings
Some large and complex buildings may be required to have multiple boxes.

Lock boxes provide fire personnel the ability to expedite entry into a residence using a key rather than forcing entry through a door or window. These are primarily used during medical emergencies.
