Roseville Police have seen an increase in thefts from motor vehicles in parking lots of area businesses.
A few reported cases involved unforced entries, but many have reported broken windows. Items most commonly taken include GPS devices, laptops, cell phones, MP3 players, purses, wallets and backpacks. Please help reduce thefts from vehicles, especially during the busy holiday shopping season.
Recommendations for Residents and Visitors:
• Lock your vehicle and close your windows
• Use anti-theft devices
• Do not leave valuables in your vehicle. This includes GPS devices, cell phones, laptops, purses, wallets, backpacks and shopping bags. GPS devices are hot items for thieves, so take your GPS units and mounting equipment with you. If your device uses suction cups, wipe away the marks.
• If you are unable to take them with you, place valuables in the trunk before reaching your destination
• Park in well-lit and well-traveled areas
• Call 9-1-1 to report suspicious activities or persons
Recommendations for Businesses:
• Alert patrons by posting signs and providing verbal warnings
• Increase parking lot security
• Consider installing camera systems
• Install additional outdoor lighting
• Partner with other local businesses; look out for one another
• Pay attention to unusual behavior. Call 9-1-1 to report suspicious persons or activities. Since a majority of crimes occur at night, be especially alert to noises such as breaking glass.
