Congratulations to Roseville Police Officer Tom Gray and his K-9 partner Tasco. They performed extremely well at the Region 12 Police Dog Narcotics Certification in early April in St. Peter, Minnesota.
Officer Gray teamed up with Minnetonka Police Officer Ryan Piper to complete the annual certification.
The trials are part of the certification that K-9 units must complete each year. At the trials, K-9 teams are tested for narcotics detection. Tasco had to detect four drug odors. For the testing, two types of drugs are hidden inside any of three rooms, and two drugs are hidden in any of five vehicles. Tasco and Officer Gray found all four drugs in less than half the allotted time.
Of 50 certifying K-9s, the Gray/Piper team took home the trophy for "Top Region Team" for their score of "excellent" for the Narcotic Detector Certification.
Tasco is a German Shepherd Dog from the Czech Republic. He and Officer Gray have been working as a team since June 2006. Roseville Police have three trained police dogs. K-9 units make police work safer and more efficient for officers who patrol the streets.
