1. How long does it take to get a permit?: Commercial permits require a minimum of 10 business days for staff review. Some residential permits can be issued immediately over the counter, including roofing, re-siding, HVAC, plumbing, and window replacements. Permits that require plan approval generally take five to seven business days for staff review. Examples include garages, additions, remodeling, decks, and others. Projects that involve variances or other land use requirements may require more time for review.

2. What types of repairs or home improvement work require a permit?: Permits are required when permanent repairs or improvements are made to a structure and the work is regulated by state or local codes and ordinances. Examples of work requiring a permit include, but are not limited to:
