In 2023, Tom Pitzl stepped into the role of Community Relations Specialist, bringing with him over 18 years of service. Throughout his 20-year career, Tom has been deeply committed to fostering strong community connections and advancing mental health support within the department.
Tom's career has spanned nearly every role in the department — Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Street Crimes Officer, Background Investigator, Taser and BolaWrap Instructor, School Resource Officer, Detective, SWAT Crisis Negotiator and Sergeant, among others, giving him a broad perspective on both operational needs and the human side of policing. He is especially passionate about mental health and officer wellness, serving as the leader of the department’s Peer Support Team and Wellness Committee. He holds a Bachelor's Degree from St. Cloud State University and Master’s Degree in Public Safety Leadership from the University of St. Thomas. He has also completed the BCA’s Leadership in Police Organizations (LPO) program.
In his current role, Tom manages both internal and external communications for RPD, overseeing visual and written materials, assisting with event planning, and maintaining the department’s online presence. His work supports the department’s broader goals of transparency, engagement, and equitable service delivery to the Roseville community.
Beyond his work within the department, Tom previously served as president of the local Fraternal Order of Police lodge, participated in the Police Unity Tour to honor fallen officers, and has been a long-time supporter of Special Olympics MN. Tom enjoys hiking, fishing, golfing, hockey, baseball, coaching his kids' sports teams, volunteering at his kids' school and other community organizations, and spending time with his wife (who is a nurse) and three young (and very busy) kids. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Invisible Wounds Project, a non-profit organization that helps to advance initiatives that strengthen mental wellness and resilience support for first responders and their families.
