Commander Jeff Lopez was promoted to the rank of Commander in January 2025. He leads the Investigations Unit, overseeing department investigators, task force officers, School Resource Officers, Property & Evidence, and the department’s Crime Analyst.
Commander Lopez began his law enforcement career in 2012 at the Metropolitan Police Academy in Washington, D.C. After graduating, he served as a patrol officer with the District of Columbia Housing Authority in the 6th Police District. In 2015, he returned to Minnesota and joined the Roseville Police Department.
Since then, he has served as a patrol officer, field training officer, background investigator, academy instructor, patrol supervisor, and detective sergeant. He is also a member of the department’s Multicultural Advisory Committee and has represented the City of Roseville with the Government Alliance on Race and Equity.
Commander Lopez is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He holds a B.A. in History from the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Public Safety Administration from Southern New Hampshire University. He has also completed the BCA’s Leadership in Police Organizations program and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association’s Leadership Trilogy series.
