Things will get hot at Roseville Central Park on May 10. Pottery professionals and newcomers are invited to participate in the Pottery in the Park, a community Raku Firing, presented by the Roseville Area Arts Council.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will take place rain or shine at the Muriel Sahlin Arboretum at 2555 Dale Street between County Road B-2 and C.
Raku is a Japanese pottery firing technique that has been adapted for western culture. Glazed pots are removed from the kiln while still hot, placed in a bed of sawdust and covered in airtight containers. When cooled, pots are bathed in cold water and scrubbed. The results are dramatic, with metallic flashes of color on the surfaces of the pots.
Members of the public can purchase small pots for a nominal price. Glazes are supplied. Firing generally takes less than an hour and participants can take the pots home the same day. Call 651-792-7414 for additional information.
