In 2013 the Minnesota Legislature revised the law requiring municipalities to follow certain steps before approving organized collection. The steps include allowing trash haulers to develop their own plan to organize in a municipality. If that is not acceptable to the municipality then the city could establish a committee to identify, examine, and evaluate various methods of organized trash collection.
The City of Roseville plans to discuss the topic at its Monday, November 18 City Council meeting. The Council will hear about the revised law and requirements that would need to be undertaken before deciding whether to adopt an organized trash collection system. The full requirements of the law are available at www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/?id=115A.94.
The City Council meets at Roseville City Hall, 2660 Civic Center Drive. Meetings are open to the public. You can also watch on www.cityofroseville.com/webstreaming or on Cable Channel 16. Comcast offers free Universal Service that includes Channel 16. Call 651-222-3333 for details.
