The 2013 Minnesota Legislature appropriated $1 million in Clean Water Fund monies to help property owners make certain improvements to reduce clear water, also known as inflow and infiltration (I&I), from flowing into the sanitary sewer system.

I&I can cause sewage back-ups, and it can add unnecessary costs to your utility bill by having to treat clear water.

Under the grant program, property owners may be reimbursed for disconnection of foundation drains or rehabilitation or replacement of a sewer service lateral between a building and a city-owned sewer system. Costs that may be covered include reasonable and verifiable costs for out-of-pocket expenses. Improvements made after July 1, 2013 will be considered. In addition to the Met Council funding, the city will contribute up to $500 towards the replacement of the service wye (the connection at the sewer main.)
