[ARCHIVED] City Names New School Liaison Officer

Crystal Jones - SLO.jpg

Beginning this fall, Officer Crystal Jones will be Roseville Area High School’s (RAHS) new school liaison officer (SLO). She replaces Lacey Blizek, who held the position for two years.

With enrollment of more than 2,100 students, RAHS is a city in itself. It requires additional security than Roseville patrol officers can provide, so the school district pays approximately two-thirds of an SLO’s salary to work at the school.

The SLO serves in addition to school personnel to provide safety in and around the high school grounds. They form relationships with students and their families, which, in turn, helps promote safety.

During the school year Officer Jones will spend school days at RAHS. She may travel to other schools within the district, as needed. When school is not in session, Officer Jones will return to regular police duty in Roseville.

Officer Jones has worked for Roseville since March 2013. She started as a Community Services Officer and became a sworn police officer in May 2014.

Officer Jones has a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and sociology from the University of Minnesota. She is a licensed emergency medical technician and has become certified in crisis intervention and DataMaster operation (breath test for DWI). She is interested in growing drug trends and drug culture, as well as youth mental health crisis and suicide prevention. She is the Benevolent Association President and serves as an advisor to the Roseville Police Explorers Program, which works with 14 to 21 year-olds interested in learning about law enforcement and criminal justice professions.

“The school liaison officer positon at Roseville Area High School plays a critical role in providing public safety to the students, staff and visitors at the school,” said Police Chief Rick Mathwig. “Officer Jones has shown that she cares deeply for the youth of our community and will be a great asset to the staff at RAHS. They are getting a great officer,”

“I am excited about this position because my youth and energy will allow me to develop positive, trusting relationships with the students at the school,” said Jones. “I have a lot to offer the school community and I hope to learn a lot in return. I am looking forward to cooperating with the staff and parents to make RAHS a fun, safe environment for everyone. Go Raiders!”
