Rebecca Olson_web

City Manager Patrick Trudgeon has appointed Rebecca Olson as the City of Roseville’s new Assistant City Manager. Olson is Roseville’s first Assistant City Manager since 2002 and began her new role on Monday.

“Finding the right fit for this position was critical and we’ve done exactly that by adding Rebecca to the City’s executive management team,” said Trudgeon. “She brings a passion for local government and a reputation for building strong working relationships with all community members that will serve the City of Roseville well.”

Olson brings more than 18 years of state and municipal government experience with her to Roseville. She most recently served three years as the Assistant to the City Manager for the City of Shoreview. Prior to that Olson served nearly 10 years as the Assistant to the City Manager in Blaine.

“There are a lot of exciting things happening in Roseville,” Olson said. “I am pleased to have the opportunity to be a part of the Roseville team and I am looking forward to putting my skills and experience to work for this dynamic and diverse community.”

In her new role, Olson will assist the City Manager in managing city services, personnel, and budgetary resources and serve a key role in the formation of strategic decisions. She will also be tasked with overseeing the day-to-day operations and services provided by the City’s Administration Department, including Council and Commission support, communications, volunteer coordination, human resources, city clerk functions, and elections.

While at Shoreview, Olson oversaw the City’s Administration, Cable Television and Communications budgets and assisted in strategic planning, policy development and implementation. In addition, her areas of responsibility included special projects like the creation of a Citizens’ Leadership Academy designed to increase community awareness and engagement, a complete website redesign for both the City and Community Center, and a leadership role in the initiative to join the Government Alliance on Race and Equity cohort.

Externally, Olson has served on the Board of Directors for the Twin Cities Gateway Convention and Visitors Bureau, is a past President of the Association of Public Management Professionals, and serves as a Public Affairs Assistant and Regional Manager of the Midwest chapter of Engaging Local Government Leaders (ELGL).

Olson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in international studies with a concentration in political science and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from the University of St. Thomas. She also possesses a Master’s in Public Administration from Hamline University.
