The City of Roseville announced that Neil Sjostrom has been selected as the Fire Department’s next Assistant Chief. Sjostrom will assume the role on June 1, when current Assistant Chief David Brosnahan becomes Fire Chief.
Sjostrom currently serves as a battalion chief with the Roseville Fire Department. He initially joined Roseville Fire as a part-time firefighter in 2005. Since then, he filled numerous roles within the department, including administrative assistant, full-time firefighter, and lieutenant, before being promoted to battalion chief in 2016.
“Neil has been a great asset for the Fire Department in his 15-plus years with the department,” Brosnahan said. “He has been significantly involved with many of the projects and programs the Fire Department has taken on in the last decade. He is well prepared to take on this role and will be able to hit the ground running.”
During his Roseville career, Sjostrom has worked closely with retiring Chief Tim O’Neill and Brosnahan in all aspects of department administration functions, including recruitment and retention. He has also overseen capital asset funding and replacement planning for the department’s fleet management program and managed the Fire Prevention Division, including inspections, plan and permit review/approval, and community education initiatives.
“I am eager to continue my service to the community as the next Assistant Chief and am looking forward to continuing our department’s progressive and innovative approach to providing services to the ever changing landscape in Roseville,” said Sjostrom. “The Fire Department, and city staff have been incredibly supportive over the course of my career and I am excited to continue to work with these great individuals in my new position.”
Sjostrom is a 2010 graduate of Metropolitan State University, where he earned a bachelor’s criminal justice. Certified by the State of Minnesota as both a firefighter and emergency medical technician, he is also a certified emergency medical services instructor, arson investigator and facility fire inspector.
