[ARCHIVED] City Manager Presents Recommended Budget

City Manager Patrick Trudgeon presented the 2017 recommended budget at the Monday, July 18 City Council meeting. The presentation provided details about the proposed budget its subsequent property tax impact.

Organizational priorities for the 2017 budget were identified and brought forward by City’s department head team earlier this year. Those recommendations were then presented to the City Council.

The $52,771,685 budget proposed by Trudgeon for 2017 is an increase of $659,065 or 1.3 percent over the City’s 2016 budget.

The budget plans for $29,718,290 in property tax-supported programs, with $23,053,395 included for non-property tax-supported items. The total for tax-supported programs represents an increase of $972,800 compared to the 2016 budget, mostly due to increased personal services and capital costs, while the total for non-property tax-supported times fell by $313,735.

To support the increased investment required to provide residents and businesses the needed, necessary, and desired services, the budget proposes raising the property tax levy by 5.5 percent for an increase of $1,046,450.

The City Council will discuss the proposed budget at a number of upcoming meetings and encourages residents to take part in the process. Key upcoming City Council meetings include a preliminary budget hearing on August 22, the adoption of the preliminary budget and tax levy (also known as the not-to-exceed levy) on Sept. 12, and the final budget hearing on Nov. 28 before the final vote on adoption of the 2017 budget on Dec. 5.

Residents may also provide feedback on the budget directly to the City Council by completing the Budget Feedback Card included in the July/August City newsletter, filling out an online budget feedback form at www.cityofroseville.com/budgetfeedback, or emailing the City Council directly at city.council@cityofroseville.com.
