The weeks leading up to the season of gift giving can be a fun-filled time of year. But for some families it can also be a time of stress. That is why the Roseville Police Department developed Shop with a Cop.
Shop with a Cop is a partnership with local social service provider Tubman Family Services and Roseville Area Schools, to identify families who have worked with a Roseville family violence detective or have other family needs. The selected families are often victims of violence.
Shop with a Cop aims to build trust between the families and the Police Department. On December 7, officers will take 16 children on a holiday shopping spree at Target. Each child is paired with an officer and is given an allowance to spend on family gifts for the holiday. Once the shopping is completed, the officers, children, and parents will be joined by other community volunteers to help wrap the gifts while enjoying a pizza party at Roseville City Hall. Each family is sent home with an additional gift card to purchase food items for the holidays.
This annual event is funded, in part, through donations from Target Corporation, Roseville Police Foundation, and private donations. If you would like to make a donation, please send a check to Roseville Police at 2660 Civic Center Drive, Roseville, MN 55113. Funds will be used to support Shop with a Cop and other programs that benefit at-risk youth.
