Minnesotans who plan to renew license plate tabs, transfer titles or complete other motor vehicle related transactions need to be aware of limited services July 17-24.
That's when the Minnesota Dept. of Public Safety Driver and Vehicle Services will be upgrading and replacing the vehicle services computer system. Online vehicle tab renewal and other DVS online services will not be available from July 17-24.
The Roseville License Center, 2737 Lexington Ave., will offer limited services from July 20-24: Motor vehicle services such as tab renewal, plate replacement and title application, will not be available during that time frame, although the office will remain open July 20 and 21 for driver’s license applications and DNR transactions. In addition to motor vehicle registration and title services, driver’s license services will also be unavailable on July 22 and the office will be closed. Passport services and hours will not be affected.
The License Center is expected to be open for business as usual on Tuesday, July 25, but we ask customers to allow extra time for office visits as staff adjusts to the new system. Once the new system is in place, turnaround time for title transactions will be reduced and customers will leave the office knowing their vehicle record has been updated in real time instead of experiencing a delay in the process.
DPS-DVS is replacing the system used for motor vehicle and driver’s license transactions and record information. The motor vehicle portion of the Minnesota Licensing and Registration System (MNLARS) will be implemented during this time, replacing the current 30-year-old mainframe computer system.
