The holidays will soon be over and it’ll be time to take down the decorations. But what do you do with the Christmas tree? We have some answers for you.
You can dispose of natural trees, wreaths and other greenery free at a Ramsey County Yard Waste Site. All decorations, including tinsel and lights, must be removed. Flocked trees are not accepted at yard waste sites. Collection sites are open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays through March.
- 1943 Pierce Butler Route, St. Paul
- 1150 Sims Ave., St. Paul
- 5900 Sherwood Road, White Bear Township
Throughout the month of January, trees can also be taken to the SKB Environmental Disposal at 630 Malcolm Ave. in Minneapolis (just off 280 and University Ave.) They're open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Cost is $2.00 per tree. Call 612-331-4610 for directions or other information.
You can also arrange a special pick up with your trash hauler. Check to make sure they will take it to a compost site. Wreaths with wire frames can be disposed of in the trash.
Other alternatives include renting a chipper from a home improvement store. Mulch your tree and use it in your garden or share the mulch with a fellow gardener, or you can leave your natural tree outside for winter. They make a great winter shelter for birds and animals in your yard. In the spring, dispose of them free at a Ramsey County Yard Waste Site.
