The state of Minnesota introduced a new drivers’ license and registration system - MNLARS - in 2017. Following its rollout, the system had repeated failures and difficulties handling customer transactions.
The Roseville License Center, like license centers across the state, incurred extra staff costs for the time it took to process transactions and loss of revenue by having to turn customers away.
In 2019, the Minnesota Legislature approved funding that provided reimbursement for the extra costs incurred by local license centers.
The City of Roseville received a grant of $280,096.72 to cover costs.
