It’s tradition - parades, cookouts and fireworks to celebrate the summer season, especially our nation's birthday on the Fourth of July. Most fireworks injuries occur in June and July. Most are avoidable.
The most common fireworks injuries are to children and teens being burned by firecrackers and sparklers.
Before you set off fireworks, plan carefully so no one gets hurt.
- Read and follow directions on the label
- Only light fireworks away from buildings, dry leaves and other flammable materials
- Wear eye protection
- Light only one item at a time and do not re-light a "dud" firework
- Dispose of fireworks by soaking them in water before putting in the trash
- Have a responsible adult in charge
- Do not give fireworks to children
