Roseville Parks and Recreation continues to rank among the elite park and rec departments in the country. This fall, the department received word that it had earned reaccreditation from two national governing bodies.
In September, the City of Roseville learned that the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) reaccredited Roseville Parks and Recreation.
“Accreditation requires ongoing adherence to and evidence of best practice operations,” said Lonnie Brokke, Roseville’s Parks and Recreation Director. “I am extremely proud of our staff, volunteers, community members, Parks and Recreation Commission members and the Mayor and City Council members for working together to achieve 100 percent compliance for the past four reaccreditation efforts.”
Every five years, an accredited agency must thoroughly be reviewed to ensure continued compliance with the accreditation standards that have been established by CAPRA. National accreditation requires park and recreation agencies to meet or exceed 151 standards representing elements of effective and efficient operations. Roseville earned 100 percent compliance with the standards, which cover all areas of operation for parks and recreation departments.
This is the fifth time Roseville has earned national reaccreditation. The process for reaccreditation is extensive. After completing the application process, the department develops a self-assessment report followed by a visit of experienced parks and recreation professionals who review and assess the department based on those standards. Some of the standards include citizen involvement; goals and objectives that include long range planning; cooperation among civic groups, schools, governmental entities and others; professional staff; security and safety of participants; programs that attract culturally diverse populations; and sound fiscal management. CAPRA then conducts a review and determines whether to reaccredit a parks and recreation agency.
Accreditation gives national recognition to Roseville’s Parks and Recreation Department and validates the city’s commitment of providing quality services to residents and visitors alike.
