Planning to sneak an extra piece of pie this Thanksgiving? Can’t say no to stuffing? Go ahead and indulge, then forget the guilt and head over to the Guidant John Rose Minnesota OVAL to skate those extra calories away.
According to the Calorie Control Council, the average Thanksgiving dinner is about 3,000 calories, and drinks, desserts and appetizes can bring the total calorie count up to 4,500. That’s 50 to 75 percent more calories than most people need in a day. Skating burns up roughly 500 calories per hour, so spending time on the ice is a great way to cap off your Thanksgiving Day.
On November 28, the Minnesota OVAL will be open from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. for open skating and hockey. Cost is $7.00 and skates are available to rent for $5.00.
The Minnesota OVAL is located at the corner of Lexington and County Road C in Roseville. It is a unique outdoor recreation facility with 110,000 square feet of ice. It includes a 400-meter skating track surrounding the infield ice area that is used for hockey and bandy. Call 651-792-7007 or visit www.cityofroseville.com/skatingcenter for additional information.
