The tool launched late in 2018 for filing reports on non-emergency crimes such as damage to property, theft, fraud and forgery, or harassment without a visit from an officer or a trip to the police station.

For 2019, the first full year of available data, a total of 790 incidents were reported through the online tool, including 411 cases of shoplifting. With these reports being submitted online, officers saved an estimated 1,185 hours of work, nearly 57% of a full-time officer’s work hours in a year, resulting in an estimated savings for the department of $43,350.

In addition to reducing administrative costs and improving the allocation of police resources, the online reporting system provides an increased level of convenience for residents. It also offers peace of mind to residents who may question whether an incident is worth taking up an officer’s time or if a particular crime has already been reported.

The online service can be accessed at www.cityofroseville.com/police/file-a-report and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week from any web-enabled device.

The online system does not replace calling 9-1-1 and should not be used for emergencies or crimes in progress. Crime victims continue to have the option to report incidents in person.
