[ARCHIVED] Completing the 2020 Census

WeCountCensus

By now, most households in Roseville will have received an invitation to complete the 2020 Census. The invitation includes a web address, phone number and a unique census identification number.

If residents do not have access to the internet, they are encouraged to complete the census by telephone. Census Bureau staff will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. CST to complete the census using the phone option. They have an adequate number of staff so they do not anticipate wait times.

It is estimated that it will take less than 15 minutes to complete the census using the telephone option. Before calling the phone number or responding on the website, collect the names and birthdates of every person living or temporarily staying at the address.

Completing the census online or by phone is secure and cost effective. If the census is not completed by April 8, the household will receive a paper copy to complete and mail in.

The person completing the census will be asked four questions about the household, including number of people at the residence, any additional people staying there temporarily, whether the residence is a house, apartment or mobile home, and a telephone number.

They will then be asked five questions about the person completing the census, including name, gender, birth date, whether Hispanic, Latino or Spanish heritage, and race.

If there are additional people staying at the home, there will be questions about each person, including name, gender, birth date, whether Hispanic, Latino or Spanish heritage, race, whether living or staying elsewhere, and relationship to the person answering the census.

A person may call the US Census Bureau to complete the census in the following languages:

  • Arabic 844-416-2020
  • Chinese Mandarin 844-391-2020
  • Chinese Cantonese 844-398-2020
  • English 844-330-2020
  • English (Puerto Rico residents) 844-418-2020
  • French 844-494-2020
  • Haitian Creole 844-477-2020
  • Japanese 844-460-2020
  • Korean 844-392-2020
  • Russian 844-417-2020
  • Polish 844-479-2020
  • Portuguese 844-474-2020
  • Spanish 844-468-2020
  • Spanish (Puerto Rico residents) 844-426-2020
  • Tagalog 844-478-2020
  • Vietnamese 844-461-2020
  • Telephone Display Device (TDD) 844-467-2020

Beginning March 20, the US Census Bureau will post the city and state census completion response rates at 2020census.gov/en/response-rates.html. In 2010, Roseville had a self-report response rate of 80.3%. The city hopes to improve the response rate in 2020. It saves money an improves accuracy, and helps ensure that the State of Minnesota gets its fair share of federal dollars.
