At 10:23 a.m. this morning, Roseville officers were dispatched to an assault in progress on the 1100 Block of Ryan Avenue West. A caller from inside of the house reported that a 17 year-old male family member was attacking others in the house with a weapon and had fled the house on foot. Roseville officers arrived to the scene and set a perimeter around the neighborhood.
Ramsey County Emergency Communications Center sent a shelter-in-place alert that was intended for the immediate neighborhood, but was sent to a larger area than expected. A person who had received the shelter-in-place alert, called 9-1-1 to report a juvenile male without shoes running westbound toward the State Fairgrounds. St. Paul Police located the suspect and took the suspect into custody without incident near the intersection of Snelling Avenue and Como Avenue.
One person was declared deceased at the scene, two people were transported to the hospital with significant injuries, and two others sustained minor injuries.
The St. Paul Police Department, Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department, and the Minnesota State Patrol assisted with the incident.
The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the investigation.
Any relevant information will be released as the investigation continues. Media inquiries can be directed to Chief Erika Scheider at 651-792-7213 or erika.scheider@cityofroseville.com
