[ARCHIVED] Roseville to Recognize Police Bravery

Please join the City of Roseville on May 15, as the Police Department recognizes officers for their outstanding police work in the past year. The City will also recognize four private citizens for their assistance to the police.

Officer Aaron Craven and an undercover officer will receive Awards of Merit. Awards of Merit are given to officers for outstanding performance of duty under unusual or difficult conditions. These acts involve protection of life or property and unusual thoroughness, conscientiousness, determination and initiative.

Officer Craven saw a suspect vehicle violate the bus stop arm, so he performed a routine traffic stop. The driver did not have a valid driver’s license or insurance. He seemed abnormally nervous considering the circumstances and had difficulty answering basic questions. Based on Officer Craven’s past experience he thought the driver may be transporting narcotics. He conducted a consent search and discovered methamphetamine. He placed the driver under arrest. Officer Craven then contacted the Ramsey County Violent Crime Enforcement Team. One of Roseville’s undercover officer had been working on a case against the driver who was suspected of being a high level narcotics dealer. A search warrant was authorized, and more drugs were located and cash was seized.

Twenty-four officers will receive Unit Citations at the awards ceremony. Unit Citations are awarded for exceptional police work or accomplishments that involve personal danger or adverse conditions. This award recognizes teamwork by two or more officers.

Officers to receive Unit Citations include Officers Joe Adams, Shawn Carter, Boua Chang, Won Chau, Grant Dattilo, Tom Gray, Mike Holtmeier, Kevin Johnson, Sean Mooney, Nick Olson, Mike Parkos, Erin Reski, Jon Riley, and Al Stefani, Detectives Jamie Baker, Jen Engh, Mark Ganley, and Tom Pitzl, Sergeants Sean Johnson, Matt Marshall, and Marc Schultz, and Lieutenants Lorne Rosand, Erika Scheider and Scott Williams.

Five officers will receive Traffic Wings for their efforts in accident reduction through traffic enforcement. Officers include Boua Chang, Won Chau, Joe Cox, Brooke Jennings and Al Stefani

The award ceremony will be at 3:30 p.m. at Roseville City Hall, 2660 Civic Center Drive. The community is invited to celebrate these accomplishments.
