Officer Howard Johnson


Killed in the Line of Duty, August 16, 1972

Officer Howard (Howie) Johnson was fatally wounded by gun fire while attempting to arrest a bank robbery suspect. Officer Johnson, age 48, had served with the Roseville Police Department for 15 years.

A park located at 1260 Woodhill Drive in Roseville was dedicated to Howard Johnson in honor of his sacrifice.

Officer Bruce Russell


Killed in the Line of Duty, May 16, 1982

Officer Bruce Russell was fatally wounded following a high speed chase that ended in a ditch on the Roseville-Falcon Heights border. Though mortally wounded, Officer Russell returned fire and shot the suspect who was later apprehended. Officer Russell had served with the Roseville Police Department for 1 year.

A park located at 1175 Roselawn Ave W was dedicated to Bruce Russell in honor of his sacrifice.

K9 Major

K9 Major


K9 Major died as the result of stab wounds sustained three years earlier while attempting a canine apprehension of a burglary suspect after being called out by the neighboring jurisdiction of Maplewood.

K9 Major tracked the suspect to a wooded area near 2370 English Street, in Maplewood, and bit the suspect on the leg. The suspect stabbed K9 Major multiple times with a butterfly knife during the apprehension. Major's handler was rushed him to the University of Minnesota Veterinary Hospital where his condition was stabilized despite major blood loss.

K9 Major's injuries resulted in him being medically retired. His condition continued to deteriorate and he was euthanized on April 30th, 2013, under the advice of veterinarians.

K9 Major had served with the Roseville Police Department for eight years.

Annual Suburban Ramsey County Law Enforcement Memorial Service


Each year, Ramsey County law enforcement departments host a ceremony honoring members of law enforcement agencies who lost their lives in the line of duty. On May 16, 2013 the Roseville Police Department hosted the second annual Suburban Ramsey County Law Enforcement Memorial Service.
